How to Play Tongits

Tongits is a popular Filipino card game typically played by 3 players using a standard 52-card deck. The objective is to form card combinations (meld) and have the lowest point total when someone calls "Tongits."

Objective: Be the first player to reduce your hand points to zero or below a threshold
Card Combinations: Form sets (3 or 4 cards of same rank) or runs (3+ consecutive cards of same suit)
Drawing: Draw one card from either the deck or discard pile each turn
Discarding: Discard one card to end your turn
Tongits: Call Tongits when you have valid combinations and minimal points
Scoring: Face cards count as 10, others at face value; Aces as 1

Tongits Rules

Card Rankings

Cards rank from highest to lowest: Ace (high), King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2. In runs, Ace can be low (A-2-3) or high (Q-K-A) but not both.

Valid Melds

Valid combinations include: 3 or 4 of a kind (same rank), 3+ consecutive cards of same suit, or combinations of both.

Bluffing

Tongits is a game of skill and strategy. Players may bluff by keeping high-point cards until the right moment.

Winning

Win by either having zero points after melding all cards, calling Tongits when your points are lowest, or being the last player with cards when deck is empty.
